Insurance, explained properly
Most people in this country are sold insurance they do not understand, and find the gaps at the worst possible moment. We start from the exclusions.
Cover for the things that would actually hurt
Term life
The cover most families actually need and least often hold. It pays your dependants if you die during the term, and pays nothing if you survive it, which is exactly why it costs a fraction of a policy that promises money back.
Health
Hospitalisation for you or your family. What matters is rarely on the front of the brochure: the room rent limit, the sub-limits on specific procedures, the co-payment, and the waiting period before pre-existing conditions are covered.
Motor
Third party cover is mandatory; comprehensive protects your own vehicle too. Worth understanding the Insured Declared Value, what a zero depreciation add-on actually changes, and which claims cost you your no claim bonus.
Home and property
The structure, the contents, or both. Relevant in a flood prone state: check whether the policy covers flood and what a claim will need, before the monsoon rather than during it.
Travel
Medical emergencies abroad, trip cancellation, lost baggage. Usually inexpensive and usually ignored, until a hospital in another country asks for a card.
Business and group
Group health for employees, shop and establishment cover, and liability policies for small businesses in and around Guwahati.
Four things we will not do
Sell protection as investment
Insurance exists to transfer a risk you cannot afford to carry. If your goal is returns, that is a different conversation and usually a different product. We are happy to have both, separately.
Lead with benefits and bury exclusions
Any policy sounds generous if you only read the first page. We go through what is not covered, the waiting periods and the sub-limits, because that is the part that decides whether a claim is paid.
Sell the biggest cover rather than the right one
Over insuring is a real cost and under insuring is a real risk. We size cover against your dependants, liabilities and income, not against a round number.
Step back at claim time
When a claim arises, we help with the documentation and stay with it until it is settled.
A word about investment cum insurance
A great deal of insurance in India is sold as a way to save tax and grow money at the same time. Endowment plans, money back policies and ULIPs all combine cover with an investment component, and they are frequently sold to people whose actual need was plain protection.
These products are not scams, and they suit some people. But they should be chosen deliberately, with the costs and the lock-in understood, and not because a term plan felt like wasted money. A ULIP is market linked: the investment risk sits with you, the policyholder.
We will tell you plainly which one you are being shown and why, including the fact that commission differs between them. If protection is what you need, we will say so.
Tell us who you are protecting, and against what
We will come back with options, and go through the exclusions and waiting periods before anything is signed.
We are in Guwahati, and helping with the paperwork when something goes wrong is the part of this job that actually matters. We work with families and businesses across Assam and North East India. Our insurance disclosures.
